MassSpectometerHD

DESCRIPTION:

  • AccuTOF LC-plus 4G mass spectrometer is the third generation of the successful AccuTOF LC series
  • robust and versatile atmospheric pressure ionization high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometer (API-HRTOFMS)
  • as the name implies, a time-of-flight mass analyzer measures masses by recording the ion flight time.
  • Allows accurate mass determination for various compounds found in solid, liquid and gas phase samples
  • Performance:
    • covers a wide range up to 30000 AMU with a resolution of 10-5 AMU
    • The detection limit is of the order of ppm
  • Available Ion Sources:
    • ElectroSpray Ionization (ESI) standard ion source, the most widely used ionization technique for LC/MS
    • APCI (Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization)
    • DART (Direct Analysis in Real Time)
  • the mass spectrometer is coupled to a NEXERA-i LC 2040C High Performance Liquid Cromatograph from Shimadzu with UV-VIS detector allowing the separation of the compounds in the liquid sample
  • The LC is a versatile tool being equipped with auto sampler with the control of the sample temperature which can inject down to 0.1 uL of sample, column temperature controller and quaternary pump for gradient operation mode to increase the separation performances.

ESI  – ElectroSpray Ionization

  • Performance: S/N≥10, Sensitivity Reserpine 10 pg
  • Soft ionization method which generates few fragment ions
  • The sample solution is sprayed in a strong electric field which turns it into charged droplets. The droplets are dried and the ions are taken out
  • Works in positive ion mode: (M+H)+ and (M+Na)+ or negative-ion mode: (M-H)-
  • Enables the measurement of compounds with polar functional groups or ionized compounds

APCI – Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization

  • Performance : S/N≥10, Sensitivity Reserpine 50 pg
  • Soft ionization method, generates few fragment ions
  • The sample solution from the HPLC is sprayed using high-pressure N2 gas which result in very fine droplets. Further, the vaporizer heats, dries and vaporizes the droplets. Ion generation is induced using corona discharge. The solvent molecules are the first to be ionized and the charge transfer that occurs between the solvent ions and sample due to ion-molecular reactions generates the sample ions to be analyzed.
  • Works in positive ion mode: (M+H)+ or negative-ion mode: (M-H)-
  • Suitable for compounds with moderate polarity and molecular weights ˂1500 uam

DART (Direct Analysis in Real Time)

  • Performance: S/N≥100, Sensitivity Methyl Stearate 10 mg
  • Award-winning technology
  • Open air ion source
  • Helium gas enter the glow discharge chamber around a needle-electrode exposed to high voltage and a luminescent discharge takes place between the needle electrode and another, ground electrode. The discharge leads to charged particles and excited state species (atoms and molecules in metastable states). This gas phase mixture enters in the region of a gas heater where the temperature is regulated to facilitate thermal desorption and/or sample pyrolysis. Next, the gas phase mixture is directed to another electrode which is maintained under a positive or negative potential for positive/ negative ion analysis. Finally, the resulted gas flow ionizes the sample and the ions formed during this process are directed to the entry orifice of the mass spectrometer and the M/z spectra are acquired.
  • Polar and non-polar compounds
  • Solid, liquid or gas phase samples
  • No sample preparation required
  • No interface is needed between DART and mass spectrometer, therefore a wider range of compounds can be detected
  • Applications: material analysis, environmental testing, synthetic chemistry, forensics, etc.
