The main objective of the proposal is to develop and characterize novel nanostructured coatings, respectively: (i) corrosion resistant Cr/Ni/Co alloys with Mo, V and also metal carbon nanotube composites;(ii) ordered nanoporous/nanotubes oxide layers onto valve metal surfaces (e.g., Al, Ti, Nb, Ta); (iii) design of a scale-up prototype of a bath-type deposition system. All these objectives will be followed involving choline chloride based ionic liquids, with an enhanced growth rate, having applications in metal finishing and electronic industries. Compared to other ionic liquids (e.g. imidazolium salts, etc.), deep eutectic solvents are much cheaper, usually less toxic and often biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
To reach this ambitious objective, the NANOCOATIL will pursue a multiple approach scenario: (i) synthesis and characterization of new systems of ionic liquids eutectic mixtures based on choline chloride; (ii) development and optimisation of the overall knowledge of electroplating techniques in ionic liquid solvents meaning that the work will focus on development of new coatings (e.g., Co-Mo alloy, Co-V alloys, Cr-Ni alloys, related composites, nanoporous anodic oxide layers); (iii) applying advanced equipment and techniques in ionic media and obtained coatings analysis and characterization, while proposing and designing a scale-ul equipment for such depositions; (iv) optimisation of the technological deposition parameters so that high quality coating layers are obtained on water sensitive substrates such as Al, with a significant potential impact on a large range of industrial fields.
