Project title: “Novel Graphene/metal composites as advanced catalytic systems in the hydrogen based energetics” (Innovative graphene/metal composites as advanced catalytic systems for hydrogen-based energy applications)

Beneficiary: National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest

Project objective: Development of new catalytic systems applicable to electrochemical processes in energy systems, specifically for electrochemical hydrogen production and polymer-electrolyte fuel cells. An essential practical element was the total or partial replacement of costly noble metals with much more affordable alternatives. The new catalytic systems were based on transition metals attached to hybrid RGO-CNT carbon matrices. The following were considered: Ni, Co, Cu, their combinations, as well as combinations with Pd and Pt in quantities below 3%. The novelty of the proposed concept and strategy was represented by the unique structure and morphology of the proposed catalytic systems. The synthesis protocols, simple yet efficient, were optimised and applied to produce a broad range of metallic species on the RGO surface. The implementation of the project contributed to advancing knowledge in this field at UPB-CSSNT.

Total project value: 6,999,996 RON (EUR 1,418,669)

Implementation period: 01.07.2023 – 30.06.2026
