Bucharest – The Capital of Romania

Bucharest is the capital and the largest city of Romania and it is located in the southeast of the country. Bucharest was first mentioned in documents in 1459. It became the capital of Romania in 1862 and is the center of Romanian media, culture, art as well as its cultural, industrial, and financial centre.

Please be aware that the official currency in Romania is “LEU“. 1 € ~= 4.6 Lei.

 

From Henri Coanda International Airport

The Henri Coanda International Airport is about 18 km from the University Politehnica of Bucharest, which can easily be reached by train, Airport Bus Shuttle or taxi/uber.

 

 Train

The Henri Coandă Express trains run every hour, providing transportation, between „Henri Coandă” (Otopeni) Airport and „Gara de Nord” Railway Station. To facilitate passenger access from Henri Coanda Airport to Henri Coandă Express trains – boarding on minibuses of transfer is performed from the gangway on the 1st floor of the international arrivals area, where there is also the ticket office. At stop „Gara de Nord” Station change to underground M1 (direction Republica) and get off to Grozavesti (use the exit that is opposite to the subway direction), from here you have to walk to the University as you can see on this link.

  • Single ticket for train: 6.8 lei (1.5 €)
  • Double ticket for underground: 5 lei (1.1 €). You can also buy a card with 10 travels: 20 lei (4.4 €).

 Bus

If you want to use the Bus, there are several options [More info here]:

  • The 780 Express line connects Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport with the Gara de Nord (main railway station). At stop „Gara de Nord” Station change to 62 trolley and get off to University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) and you have to walk to the University about 1 minute.

  • The 783 Express line connects Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport with the city center. This line runs day and night. At night, the bus leaves every 40 minutes. At the city center you can take the 336 bus from University of Bucharest (direction Complex Comercial Apusului) and get off to University Politehnica Bucharest (UPB) and you have to walk to the University about 4 minute.

The airport stops are in front of the Arrivals Terminal and the Departures Terminal

  • Price for one bus/tram trip is 3,5 lei (0.76 €).
  • The magnetic card valid for two travels costs 7 lei (1.52 €).

Please, do not forget to validate your ticket in the bus/tram!

 

 Taxi / Uber

Taxis can be ordered at the automatic machines available at the exit of the arrivals terminal. Please be careful to check the taxi number given on the receipt from the machine against the one on the car!
You can order an Uber in front of the airport. However, the pickup point is in the parking lot across the street, next to the first automated machine for paying the parking.

A usual price for a taxi / uber ride from the airport to the University is about 30 lei / 60 lei (7 € / 12 €).

 

 Car
